Congresswoman Claudia Tenney donated a portion of her salary from the government shutdown to the Central New York Veterans Outreach Center in Utica on Wednesday.

Tenney, who says her net pay was about $256, wrote a personal check to the center for $300.

Tenney urged the community to donate to the Veterans Outreach Center as well.

“The government shutdown put our military, their families and our nation’s veterans at risk. Our men and women in uniform should never be used as a political leverage. That’s why I am donating my salary from the first day of the Schumer Shutdown to Utica’s Central New York Veteran Outreach Center. Vince Scalise and the entire team at the Veterans Outreach Center provide critical services and assistance to our veterans across Central New York and the Mohawk Valley.” said Tenney.

Director Vince Scalise says the funds will go to help veterans and their families in need.
