QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (AP) — Closings statements are set in the trial of an upstate New York man charged in a boating crash last year that claimed the life of an 8-year-old California girl.

Prosecutors and the defense attorneys for 25-year-old Alexander West wrapped up their cases Wednesday in Warren County Court in Queensbury and will make their summations Thursday.

West was charged with manslaughter after his motor boat collided with another boat on Lake George on the night of July 25. Killed in the crash was Charlotte McCue of Carlsbad, California, who was riding in her grandfather's boat. Her mother was injured.

Prosecutors say West was impaired by drugs and alcohol at the time of the crash because he had spent the day partying on his boat at the Adirondack lake's annual Log Bay Day gathering.
