A texting option has been added to the New York Sheriffs' Victim Hotline.

Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol says crime victims will now be able to receive a text message in the event of any change in custody status of any offender housed in a county correctional facility in New York state.

The victims hotline or VINE allows crime victims to learn the custody status of an offender 24/7 by telephone or online.

In 2014, almost 2.8 million crime victims searched the VINE database.
