A new effort by State Police to crackdown on distracted driving is underway.

Governor Cuomo says the up to $1 million initiative will consist of increased enforcement and patrols, particularly through undercover operations using unmarked State Police SUV's.

Cuomo says texting while driving is a dangerous practice that will not be tolerated on New York's roads and highways.

In New York state, one in five crashes is a result of distracted driving.
