A special enforcement effort to crackdown on drunk drivers this Thanksgiving holiday weekend is underway.

A number of local law enforcement agencies will be taking part in the initiative, which runs through Sunday.

Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol says the Sheriff's Office will have extra patrols on the roads in an effort to help keep drivers safe.

State Police, along with the Whitesboro, Whitestown, Utica, Rome, New York Mills, Vernon and Yorkville Police Departments, will also be participating in the DWI crackdown.

The Oneida County Stop DWI program has received a $63,500 state grant to fund this and other selective crackdowns through September 2015.
