Ilion, NY (WIBX) - The Ilion Walk-in Care Center is celebrating its grand opening today, and already accepting patients in need of non-emergency medical treatment. Carol Canter, Director of Clinical Services with Slocum-Dickson Medical Group says anyone can walk in and be seen for ailments like colds, earaches, sore throats, sprains, urinary tract infections and other minor medical problems.

She said, "They can walk in, they can be seen and it's not just injuries and illnesses, we also are doing pre-employment physicals, we're doing physicals for kids going back to school if they need them for athletics, so it's kind of a new concept that should alleviate the wait time in the emergency room." The Clinic also offers primary care services at the same location however, those services are not available at the Walk-In Care Center. Canter added that the new service will also help certain patients travel a shorter distance for non-emergency medical treatment.

Patients will be treated by Dr. Khalil Alshaer, a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. According to the release, Dr. Alshaer completed his Family Residency at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse and earned his Medical Degree from Ross University School of Medicine in the Commonwealth of Dominica, an Island nation in the Caribbean Sea.
