It boggles my mind when people complain about traffic in Utica because... it doesn't exist.

Coming from someone who's lived in Los Angeles it's hard to imagine my hometown as a 'busy' area with traffic. Depending on the time of day in LA, your commute could take you double or triple the time it usually does. My commute to my internship could take anywhere from 15-25 minutes. The way home was always worse and would take +30.

It could take 10 minutes to drive one mile, you could sit at the same streetlight and watch it turn from green to red several times before you actually pass through. I would take this time to decompress and blast some good jams, as having road rage only makes the drive worse.

In the Utica area you can get to several surrounding towns in a short drive. People like to complain if they get stuck behind a slow driver or get caught behind a red light. When new restaurants come in there's always news stories published that it will cause a 'huge wave of traffic.'

Traffic is bearable even in larger cities around us like Syracuse, Albany and Buffalo. I know it's ridiculous to compare these places to Utica but when you've dealt with real traffic, driving in this area is a breeze. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your short commute home.
