Utica, NY (WIBX) - Get ready to pay more for that parking ticket! The new law, which was introduced by Utica City Councilmen Frank Meola and Rocco Giruzzi, went into effect on April 1st. Penalties for parking, standing or stopping violations were raised from $20 to $50. And, if violators don't pay it within 72 hours ... the fine will increase to $100! And, if violators still don't pay the $100 fine within 10 days, that fine gets increased again to $125.

Penalties for handicapped parking violations were raised to $60 and that fine will also increase if not paid in a timely fashion. The new city ordinance was approved by the Common Council.
