1969 —  Joe Namath quit the NFL after league commissioner Pete Rozelle ordered him to sell his stake in a bar frequented by reputed gamblers. (More Info.)

1976 — The Boston Celtics beat the Phoenix Suns in Game 6 of NBA Finals and win the series, 4-2 (More Info.)

1983 — The Boston Red Sox selected Roger Clemens with the 19th pick in the MLB draft. (More Info.)

1987 — Bet Twice won the Belmont Stakes and ends Alysheba’s run at the Triple Crown. (More Info.)

1999 — Andre Agassi defeated Andre Medvedev at the French Open to become just the fifth man to win all four Grand Slam tennis events. (More Info.)

2001 — Philadelphia beat the Los Angeles Lakers 107-101 in OT in Game 1 of the NBA Finals as both 76ers’ guard Allen Iverson (48) and Lakers’ center Shaquille O’Neal (44) scored 40 or more points. (More Info.)
