Thrill Ride Crash Prompts Re-Inspections For NY State Fair

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — State officials say certain rides at the New York State Fair will be re-inspected in the wake of a fatal accident involving a ride at the Ohio State Fair.

The state Department of Labor, the New York agency in charge of amusement park ride inspections, announced Thursday that all rides managed by the company involved in the Ohio accident as well as those of a similar type owned by any company will be inspected again before the New York State Fair opens Aug. 23.

An 18-year-old man was killed and seven other people were injured when a thrill ride broke apartment at the Ohio fairgrounds in Columbus on Wednesday. The fair reopened Thursday but all rides remain closed Friday.

The type of ride in the Ohio accident wasn't scheduled to be at the New York fair.
