Thruway To Have New Striping
Albany, NY (WIBX) - The New York State Thruway Authority is implementing a new pavement striping system that will make the Thruway safer while potentially saving the state money, officials say.
The “Recess Triple Drop” striping system provides an enhanced level of visibility, especially during nighttime wet weather driving. Glass beads and wet-reflective ceramic are placed within grooves in the pavement to aid visibility.
The system will also lengthen the time between applications. Unlike conventional epoxy striping that is replaced every two years, the “Recess Triple Drop” stripes are expected to last three years. The cost to the state will remain similar, accorind to the Thurway Authority.
The stripes have already been installed in Buffalo and Fultonville. The Authority expects to have nearly 350 miles of the Thruway treated by the end of the year.
