CHICAGO (AP) — Police have found a toddler's decomposing body parts in a park on Chicago's West Side.

The Chicago Tribune reports that police say someone called 911 Saturday afternoon after finding a foot floating in the water at the Garfield Park Lagoon. Authorities say it turned out to be a toddler's left foot.

Officers later found a right foot, right hand and left hand about 25 yards away and a 20-pound weight nearby. Authorities say the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition, the Tribune reports.

Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the Chicago Sun-Times late Saturday that investigators didn't know whose remains they were or the circumstances behind them being in the park.

Police suspended the search overnight and planned to resume after daybreak on Sunday.
