The New York Giants and Tom Coughlin have agreed to a one-year extension keeping the coach under contract through the 2015 season.

It's an appropriate adjustment considering Ben McAdoo, the team's new offensive coordinator, signed a two-year deal this offseason.

Coughlin, 67, has won two Super Bowls in his 10 seasons in New York but is coming off a shaky 7-9 season that saw Big Blue start 0-6.

The extension was announced Friday on Giants.com:

Coughlin was asked if a longer extension was ever discussed.

“It was never brought up,” he said. “It was never proposed by me or anybody else.”
