[UPDATE] 2:00 PM - The National Weather Service has cancelled the Tornado Watch for the Mohawk Valley and Central New York.

The National Weather Service is issuing a weather advisory for the Mohawk Valley and parts of Central New York.  A tornado watch is in effect until 5:00pm on Monday, October 7, 2013.

If a tornado warning is issued the public will be notified by an emergency broadcast signal.

At that time residents will be told to seek shelter and take the necessary steps to protect life and property.

Meteorologist Jennifer Narramore talks about the tornado watch in effect:

She says that we have a very powerful cold front with the possibility of winds exceeding seventy-five miles per hour.  Damaging wind gusts, even if there is not tornado, could cause extensive damage and increase the possibility of flooding throughout the region as well.

Difference Between Tornado Watch and Tornado Warning

What is the difference between a tornado watch and a tornado warning? When a "tornado watch" is in effect is means not that there is a tornado, but that the weather conditions present have created, or may potentially have the ability to create, a favorable environment for a tornado to form.
