Tougher Distracted Driving Laws Go Into Effect Today

Penalties for texting and talking on the phone while behind the wheel increase significantly in New York state starting today.

First time offenders will get five points on their license and face up to $230 in fines and penalties.

Younger drivers on probationary and junior licenses will lose their license for 60 days for a first time offense.
