FISHKILLK, N.Y. (AP) — The planning board for a Hudson Valley town says it will hire an archaeologist while the review process continues for a development project planned at a Revolutionary War site.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports (http://pojonews.co/29TNNKt ) the planning board for Fishkill in Dutchess County agreed Thursday night to hire an archaeologist while moving forward with the site review for the Continental Commons project.

A developer is seeking approval to build a hotel and retail stores on the former site of the Fishkill Supply Depot, a major American army support complex during the Revolution. The property along Route 9 contains a burial ground which preservationists say holds the remains of hundreds of American soldiers who died at Fishkill.

An archaeologist hired by the developer said archaeological surveys performed at the site didn't support the group's claims.
