Three people were sent to area hospitals as a result of a tractor trailer accident in the Town of New Hartford.

According to police, 38-year-old Emir Alic of Utica was operating a tractor trailer traveling west on State Route 5 when he passed through a red traffic signal. As a result, a vehicle traveling east was struck by Alic's vehicle.

The collision between Alic and the vehicle driven by 21-year-old Amber Comings of Vernon Center caused the tractor trailer to spin and hit two other vehicles stopped at a traffic signal at Genesee Street.

One of the vehicles stopped at that traffic signal was driven by 27-year-old Diana Lisov of Yorkville. Lisov and Alic were transported to St. Luke's Hospital for their injuries. Comings was transported to St. Elizabeth's for treatment.

Emir Alic was issues a citation for Passing a Steady Red Traffic Signal and will answer the charge at a later date. New Hartford Fire Department assisted at the scene with patient care and traffic control.
