SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A man in a wheelchair has been seriously injured after police say he was dragged several hundred feet by a tractor-trailer in central New York.

Syracuse police say a man in a motorized wheelchair was in an intersection Wednesday afternoon when he saw the truck turning and tried to get out of the way. That's when police say the tractor-trailer clipped the wheelchair and dragged him.

The victim has been taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he's in critical condition. Police say he's expected to survive.

Investigators say the driver of the tractor-trailer initially kept driving after the crash because he didn't realize what happened.

The crash remains under investigation.
