BREAKING 02/13/2015  9:41am: A multi-vehicle accident is being reported near Dyke Road on Route 5S in Utica.  The accident is being cleared.  The possible extent of injuries and property damage is not known at this time.

The weather may be the cause of several accidents and traffic delays this morning.

A one-car accident is being reported on Route 8.  Emergency responders are on the scene.  We will provide you with more details as soon as they are available.

Traffic is also reported delayed on Oriskany Street by the Utica Memorial Auditorium is at a standstill.  A caller to WIBX First News with Keeler called to say that he has been sitting in traffic for almost 30 minutes near the sports facility.

Motorists are reminded to use caution throughout the Mohawk Valley this morning.  Because of the wind chill possible drivers are urged to carry emergency kits, including blankets and winter weather gear in the event of a breakdown.


The New York State Department of Transportation has issued a travel advisory this morning for the area for the Route 12 south ramp to State Street along with the State Street Ramp from Oriskany Street.  The area will be closed to traffic during the installation of steel beams over Oriskany Street.  The area will be reopened to traffic at the end of the day on Friday, February 13, 2015.

From a release from the DOT:

"Motorists traveling east on Oriskany Street wishing to access Route 12 north will be directed to stay on Oriskany Street /5S east, left onto John Street, merge onto Genesee Street north, right onto Auert Ave, right onto I-790 west/Route 5 west, to Route 12 north."
