ALTAMONT, N.Y. (AP) — A New York state trooper has been suspended after turning himself in to police 15 hours after crashing his car into parked vehicles in a village outside Albany.

Police in Altamont tell the Times Union of Albany that 31-year-old Christopher Nations was driving his Mustang early on the morning of April 17 when he hit several vehicles, causing his car to burst into flames.

Nations and a 31-year-old man riding with him fled the scene. Police say that since he didn't turn himself in until at 6 p.m. that day, it was impractical to test him for drugs and alcohol.

He was ticketed for driving at an imprudent speed and leaving the scene of an accident.

Nations graduated from the State Police Academy in last December.
