Utica, NY (WIBX) - American troops stationed in Western Afghanistan got a little taste of home, by running their version of the Boilermaker.

Members of the 2nd Battalion of the 108th Infantry, based out of the Parkway Armory in Utica, ran their fifth Boilermaker Shadow Run on July 20th.

Originally, the plan was to run the event in tandem with Utica's road race, but emergency military operations forced the event to reschedule.

Still, the winner finished the 15k event in 64 minutes.

In Afghanistan, temperatures typically will hit 100 degrees with wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour.

Executive Director, Tim Reed, says "It was a pleasure to, in some small way, support our hometown troops."

They will return home in the fall with the finish line banner, signed by the participants. A celebration will be held to mark the event.
