Verona, NY (WIBX) A disappointing announcement for pro-golf fans in Central New York.
The Oneida Indian Nation is leaving the PGA-Tour.
Nation CEO Ray Halbritter says they hoped to secure and unshared date on the PGA Tour schedule that would highlight the peak golf season in Central New York State, but unfortunately it did not work out.
He says the Nation is exploring new options to host profession golf events, and if opportunities arise in the future with the PGA Tour that are consistent witht he Oneida Nation's goals, they would be considered.
The Turning Stone Resort Championship was apart of the fall tour for three years, before being bumped up to the FED EX Cup Series this summer. However, the event was held the same week a as the Bridgestone Invitational, a larger, more prestigious tournament offering more than double the FED EX Cup points and prize purse.
