Oneida County officials have confirmed two cases of Enterovirus D68 in Oneida County.

The rare respiratory virus is likely to spread from person to person when an infected person coughs, sneezes or touches contaminated surfaces according to the CDC.

Officials say children are at a higher risk of contracting the virus, and the best prevention is to wash hands and avoid close contact with anyone who is sick.

So far one case has also been identified in Madison County and two in Onondaga County.

Local Hospitals have set temporary age restrictions on visitors to protect patients from the spread of the virus.
