Two Men Swim To Safety As SUV Ends Up In Erie Canal
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office says two men had to swim to safety after the vehicle they were in ended up in the Erie Canal.
Deputies say 56-year old Joel Reed of Blossvale was driving in reverse on a dirt pathway just east of Lock 21 when he mistakenly backed into the canal.
Reed was taken to Rome Memorial Hospital with rib, shoulder and jaw pain.
Reed's passenger, 36-year old William Laufer of Blossvale was not injured.
The investigation into the accident is continuing.
