Two students from Great Britain are recovering after being attacked inside the 9th Street Port Authority Trans Hudson (PATH) station in New York City.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo says that witnesses saw four people assaulting the students during the early morning hours of Sunday, November 17, 2013.

The Associated Press reports that two teenagers from New Jersey are now in custody. 17-Year old Deon Hinnat and a 14-year old boy, whose identity is not being released, are being held on gang-related assault charges for their alleged involvement. Police are looking for two more suspects believed to have participated in the attacks.

The victims live in Jersey City, New Jersey, which is about a twenty-minute ride from the 9th Street PATH Station where the attacks occurred.

According to the Pentangelo the female student victim fell, hit her head, and was taken to a hospital where she was treated and released. The male student refused medical attention.

A notice on the PANYNJ website shows that the trains were operating on a 15-minute delay because of "police activity" but it is not known if that particular activity was related to the assault.  An additional entry shows that the 9th Street Station was scheduled to be closed during the overnight hours from Monday, November 16 through Wednesday, November 20, 2013.

The PATH trains connect the New Jersey and New York transit systems near lower and midtown Manhattan.  The PATH system is operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
