West Henrietta, NY (WIBX) - The New York-Penn Region of the American Red Cross says its supply of type O negative blood has dropped to critcially low levels.

Type O negative is always in high demand because it can be transfused to patients with any blood type, especially in emergency situations.

The New York-Penn Blood Services Region provides blood to more than 120 hospitals.

The Red Cross is extending blood drive hours in some areas and is asking donors to make and keep appointments.

Eligible blood donors are asked to call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit www.redcrossblood.org to find a blood drive in their area.
