Utica, N.Y. (1/31/2011) – SID Gil Burgmaster tells us  that the Utica College men’s hockey team moved up six spots in the latest USCHO.com Division III National Poll released Monday. The Pioneers are now ranked No. 8 nationally after defeating No. 15 Hobart in a pair of games at the Aud over the weekend.

UC has now won ten of its last 12 contests and improved to 15-5 overall and 4-3 in the ECAC West. 15 wins in a single season ranks second all-time and the Pioneers needs just one more victory to tie the school-record set back in 2004-05 when they won the regular season conference championship.

The Pioneers outscored the Statesmen 9-2 over the weekend, including a convincing 5-0 shutout victory on Saturday night in front of 3,050 fans. With the two victories over Hobart, Utica earned four key points in the ECAC West standings and moved into a tie for second place with Neumann.

Junior captain Tim Coffman scored his 100th career point over the weekend and in 70 career games he now has 103 points. He needs 27 points to break the College's all-time scoring record set by former All-American Jimmy Sokol back in 2005.

The Pioneers take on Manhattanville this Saturday Night at 7 at the Utica Aud.  Coverage on WIBX at 6:45 with Pioneer pre-game!
