Utica, NY (WIBX) - For one game each year, you're encouraged to throw stuff(ed) on the ice at a Utica College hockey game.

The 5th annual New York Sash Teddy Bear Toss is Saturday night at the Utica Memorial Auditorium as the Utica College men's hockey team takes on Buffalo State.

Attendees who bring a new teddy bear or other stuffed animal, will be admitted to the game for free.

Scott Hayes of New York Sash says more than 3,000 stuffed animals were collected during last year's event.

When UC scores it's first goal of the game, and only after the first UC goal of the game, fans can chuck the teddys onto the ice. They're collected and given to several local charities in the Mohawk Valley, said Hayes.

The game starts at 7 p.m., but fans are encouraged to get there early because the annual Teddy Toss game is usually one of the highest attended of the year.
