Utica, NY (WIBX) - This evening the community is getting a unique opportunity to hear a lecture from Pulitzer Prize winning writer, author and columnist, Leonard Pitts, Jr. Pitts Jr., whose column appear in over 250 publications throughout the country, including our own local paper, The Observer Dispatch and in publications based in the Caribbean,  is giving a presentation titled, "A Single Garment of Destiny."

He says his talk is about a theory on race. "I'll be talking a little bit about, you know, what I call race theory as sort of the investion of the idea of race and how that has been used to divide us as American people on issues where as perhaps otherwise, we would have been much more in cohesion than we turned out to be," he explained.

The event starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Clark Athletic Center. College officials say the speaking engagement is part of its "Many Cultures, One Community" program that aims to address and promote diversity throughout the campus.
