Executives at one airline are stepping down in the midst of a federal investigation.

In a statement from United Airlines, the airline said the resignations are tied to an investigation into whether or not airline executives tried to influence officials with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The announcement that CEO Jeffery Smisek and two others have resigned was made today.

Fox News reports that Smisek will receive a separation payment of $4,875,000, and may still receive a bonus.

United Airlines says that it is cooperating with the government and is conducting its own investigation as well.
