Over 400 American flags line the Memorial Parkway in Utica near the 9/11 Memorial.

Volunteers from the United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area and members of the ROTC program at Notre Dame Junior/Senior High School placed 410 flags along the median of the Parkway today.

The flags, which were donated by American Legion Post 229, represent each first responder killed on September 11, 2001.

A memorial service hosted by Utica Fire Chief Russell Brooks will take place at the 9/11 Memorial on Friday morning.

The flags will remain on the Parkway until Saturday, when volunteers will then take them to local Veterans' grave sites.
