Senator Joe Griffo is once again hosting a free e-waste recycling event where you can dispose of your old electronics, confidential documents, expired medication and more.

The event will be held this Saturday, October 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Runnings on Taberg Road in Rome, and will accept:

  • TV's
  • Computers
  • printers
  • small appliances
  • confidential documents for shredding (up to 5 boxes per vehicle)
  • old or expired prescription medications (no sharps or needles)
  • old hardcover or paperback books
  • magazines
  • rigid plastics (empty buckets, large water jugs, storage crates, plastic furniture, children's toys and play sets)

New this year, the Jervis Public Library will be collecting old books, magazines and rigid plastics.

"Over the past five years, I have been impressed by the hundreds of people who have come out to our recycling events to safely dispose of so many unwanted items, such as old televisions and computers or expired medications," Senator Griffo said. "I am proud to see our community being so mindful of protecting the environment, and it is very encouraging to watch these events draw bigger and bigger crowds year after year. But yet we can still do more, and every year we look to expand these events inn different ways. That's why this year the public will be given the opportunity to drop off additional items as they drive through, like old books and rigid plastics such as empty buckets, water jugs, storage crates, plastic furniture and children's toys. And by encouraging those who stop by to bring any canned goods for those in need, we can truly have an even bigger impact on the community and our environment."

Senator Griffo is also encouraging the public to bring canned goods to be donated to the Rome Rescue Mission for their holiday food drive.
