In honor of Black History Month, a new photo has been unveiled in the lobby of the Utica Police Department.

The photo is of William Yearby, who was the first African-American officer hired by the UPD in 1951.

Yearby actually served with Utica Police Chief Mark Williams' father on the force.

Members of Yearby's family, including his son Rodney were on hand for today's ceremony.

Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri also proclaimed today Officer William Yearby Day in the city.
