One of the Utica Police Department’s four-legged officers will be receiving a protective vest, thanks to a donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s.

"Wolf" is one of the newest member of the UPD's K9 Team and is certified in bomb detection and patrol duties.

The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $950.  Each vest has a value of between $1,744 and $2,283

Vested Interest in K9s was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with potentially lifesaving body armor for their dogs.

Delivery of the vest is expected within eight to ten weeks.
