UPD: Power Lost After Drunk Driver Hits Utility Pole

Utica, NY (WIBX) - A Marcy man is facing several DWI charges after striking a utility pole and cutting power to homes in the area of Stark Street in Utica. Police say it happened around 1:30 this morning after the driver, 24-year-old Justin Wengert of Jerry Road, exiting a parking lot at an excessive speed and losing control of his vehicle.

Utica police say the impact severed the utility pole in multiple places, causing a Transformer to fall a few feet from Wengert, who had exited his vehicle and attempted to walk away from the accident. An investigation determined that Wengert was intoxicated.

Wnegert is facing the following charges:

  • 2 counts of DWI
  • Aggravated DWI
  • Traffic Summons
