Utica, NY (WIBX) - Following the recent release of an arrest video by a weekly newspaper's website, the Utica Police Department has opened up, sharing some details of an ongoing internal investigation.

According to Sergeant Steve Hauck, an investigation was opened by the UPD on October 18th, after a request for an investigation was filed by the NAACP.

Hauck said the investigation is being handled by a special section of the police department.

"As far as the internal investigation, that's handled by our Professional Standards unit, which is really a total, separate entity within the police department," Hauck said. "It's its own unit."

The unit answers only to Police Chief Mark Williams, keeping the case from being tampered with.

Hauck says the investigation is in its latter stages, but because of the circumstances he is unable to provide a timetable.
