Utica, NY (WIBX) - The man shot and killed in the City of Utica last night was a Culinary student at Mohawk Valley Community College.The victim, 35-year-old Jermaine Stubbs of Utica was enrolled in the Culinary Arts Management Program since January 2012.

Utica Police say Stubbs was shot and killed during an incident on the 600 block of Lenox Avenue, just before 2:00 this morning. The incident is still under investigation and officials are asking anyone with information to come forward. To help students, MVCC is providing grief counseling through its Counseling Offices in Utica and Rome.

A statement from the college read:

"It is with a sad heart that I inform you of the death of our student Jermaine Stubbs last night. His death is tragic for family, students, faculty, and staff and the thoughts and condolences from everyone at Mohawk Valley Community College go out to all who are mourning at this difficult time. Jermaine was a matriculated student in our Culinary Arts Management Program who started with us in January 2012. To help students, MVCC is providing professional counseling staff through its Counseling Offices in Utica and Rome. For faculty or staff who may need assistance the Employee Assistance Program can be reached by contacting the Human Resources Office."
