UPD Wins In Appeals Court

The City of Utica, Utica Police Department and UPD officers recently won two appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals.

Both lawsuits involved alleged civil rights violations of Stephen Patterson and Willie Walker, which were dismissed by United States District Court in 2014 and 2015.

The District Court's ruling in favor of the Utica Police Department was affirmed by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in both cases.

Patterson and Walker had claimed false arrest, malicious prosecution and unlawful entry after officers entered the after-hours establishment "Pete's" on Nichols Street in October 2009 and January 2010.

Both men were accused of operating an illegal cabaret at "Pete’s."
