Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Cash Corner on Genesee Street in downtown Utica was robbed at gunpoint, yesterday afternoon.

Police say 39 year old Robert Lecher entered the business, announced that he was attempting to rob the shop and then fired a shot off inside the building. According to police the suspect then struck the clerk in the head with a shotgun, leaving a laceration.

Police caught up with a man matching the description of the suspect on Deveraux Street, behind the State Office Building and took him into custody.

Lecher was charged with 1st degree Robbery, Assault and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, all felonies. He was also charged with Reckless Endangerment, for allegedly firing the shotgun inside the store.
