Utica Police are releasing new information about an incident that occurred earlier last month.

On December 12, 2013 police were called after a man said he had been cut by two men whom the victim said ran away after stabbing him.  He walked into the Tramontane Cafe, a Lincoln Avenue eatery and cultural hot spot known locally as "The Tram," looking for help.

The man sustained what police described as a "serious" wound to the neck.

Police say during their investigation it became apparent that the victim's version of the events "did not make sense."   The man has since admitted to police that the wound was self-inflicted, and that he had been attempting to commit suicide.

On January 1, 2014 he was charged with falsely reporting an incident.

The identity of the man will not be released by police.
