Congrats goes out to two Upstate New York breweries. Why's that? Both took home gold medals in the annual beer competition at the Great American Beer Fest.
The two Upstate gold medalists winners were Brewery Ommegang and Adirondack Pub and Brewery.

• Witte, a Belgian-style wheat beer from Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown. Witte is a hazy yellow beer, 5.2 percent alcohol, spiced with orange peel and coriander, and is one of Ommegang's core traditional Belgian-style beers. It won in the Belgian-style Wibier (or wheat beer) category.
• Sour Project Ale, fromAdirondack Pub & Brewery in Lake George. It's a Belgian-style golden ale aged 12 months in Pinot Noir barrels and inoculated with brettanomyces yeast and lactobacillus to cause souring. It won in the Wood- and Barrel-aged Sour Beer category.

According to the Syracuse.com, gold medals are awarded to "a world-class beer that accurately exemplifies the specified style, displaying the proper balance of taste, aroma and appearance." New York also had two other beers win including Broken Bow Brewery in Tuckahoe, Westchester County, and Great South Bay Brewery in Bay Shore, Long Island. New York is definitely a force to be recognized in the craft beer world.
