Upstate City Opens New $3M Hudson River Esplanade

RENSSELAER, N.Y. (AP) — The city of Rensselaer is opening a new public esplanade along the Hudson River.

The city used state funds to complete the $3 million project. It features a 1,000-foot walkway and bike path, green space and room for concerts, picnics and recreation. The esplanade will feature scenic views of the river and the Albany skyline.

Crews broke ground on the esplanade in 2016, and local officials hope it will improve quality of life, spur residential revitalization and attract more visitors to the community.

A ceremony held to formally open the site to the public was held Friday morning.
