FONDA, N.Y. (AP) — Police in upstate New York are investigating a fire that destroyed an auto repair shop.

WNYT-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2vASFuW ) firefighters responded to the fire at Mancini Motors in Fonda Tuesday afternoon. Mohawk Fire officials say two people in the shop and the couple who lived in an upstairs apartment escaped the structure unharmed.

Fire Chief Stanley Mitchell says a gasoline leak from a car in the shop sparked the fire. Mitchell says combustible oil tanks inside the shop also posed a threat to firefighters.

Demolition crews began tearing the structure down Tuesday.
