BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) — A 35-year-old upstate New York man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for strangling his girlfriend two years ago in their mobile home.

The Press & Sun-Bulletin of Binghamton reports (http://press.sn/2doXvoP ) that the pre-arranged sentence for Michael Fiocco was handed down Thursday in Broome County Court.

The sentence was determined when Fiocco pleaded guilty to manslaughter in August in the death of Shannon Laskaris. Fiocco admitted causing the victim's death while intending to inflict serious physical injury.

Broome County Sheriff's deputies say the homicide was discovered after a deputy was dispatched to the mobile home. A man asked 911 dispatchers to send an ambulance before the call was disconnected. Her body was found in a bedroom of the mobile home.

The couple had one child together.
