The Uptown theater is now for sale or lease by its current owner. The Utica landmark is being sold by owner Tracey Mills who says sales haven't been consistent enough to keep it open.

Mills has put some work into the theater in her time as owner. She had the interior converted from 3 small theaters into one large one while moving the movie screen so it no longer blocks the stage. The lower level seating can be removed to accommodate up to 1200 people (the theater holds 400 with the seats in), the stage has been opened up and there is now a green room for performers.

Other recent renovations to the Uptown include a new Christie digital movie projector, a new roof, new carpeting and updated electrical systems.

Mills would prefer to sell it to a concert promoter or someone who will use it for entertainment because that's what the landmark building in Utica's Uptown district was built for. She doesn't have a set price and is willing to work with serious potential buyers who want to keep the Uptown Theater running.
