BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard station in Buffalo is getting a new commander as the current one heads into retirement.

A change-of-command ceremony is being held Thursday afternoon at the Templeton Landing restaurant on the Buffalo waterfront as Capt. Joseph DuFresne takes over command from Capt. Brian Roche, who is retiring after 36 years in the Coast Guard.

DuFresne was previously assigned as the deputy sector commander of Coast Guard Sector North Carolina in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Rear Adm. June Ryan, commander of the Cleveland-based Ninth Coast Guard District, will president over the ceremony.

The Coast Guard's Buffalo sector based on the city's Lake Erie waterfront covers a region stretching from the Cleveland area to the mouth of the St. Lawrence Seaway in northern New York.
