The City of Utica and the Utica Police Benevolent Association have a new five-year contract.

Mayor Robert Palmieri says under the agreement, all new hires by the Utica Police Department must contribute 20% toward their chosen health care plan

Palmieri says that's a substantial increase.

Current police officers will see an average salary increase of 1.65% a year over the duration of their contract.

In addition, the new contract will extend all officers work weeks to 41 and 1/4 hours.

The agreement is retroactive to 2011.
