Drones are expected to be on the top of many Christmas wish lists. So if you get or give a drone this holiday season, here are the 5 areas of Upstate New York you should not fly them.

1 - Griffiss Park - Rome

The area around the former Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome is restricted. Griffiss Park is still home to North East Air Defense and home to the general aviation Griffiss International Airport.

2 - Hancock Airport - Syracuse

The Syracuse area commercial airport shares the complex with a military installation, the Hancock Field Air National Guard Base.

3 - Fort Drum - Watertown

Fort Drum encompasses 25 square miles in Upstate New York and is home to the US Army's 10th Mountain Division.

4 - Adirondack Military Operations Areas

This one might surprise you the most. There is a large swath of the Adirondack Park north and east of Fort Drum that are designated Military Operations Areas. According to the New York State Department of Military and Naval Affairs, low-flying areal exercises are conducted over the park by military units from across the North East,

The majority of this training is conducted in military operating areas in the Adirondack Park area surrounding the Ft. Drum complex near Watertown, NY. Currently, these training areas are used by Air Force and Air National Guard F-16 and A-10 aircraft from New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and the District of Columbia units.

5 - Seneca Army Depot

The Seneca Army Depot, located between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes in the towns of Romulus and Varick closed in 2000. It was used as a munitions storage and disposal facility. Even though the facility hasn't been an active military installation for fifteen years, drone experts say it's a no-fly zone.
