A landmark Utica building has been placed on the state's registry of historic places.

The Whiffen-Ribyat Building at 327-331 Bleecker Street was built in 1893 and housed Isaac Whiffen's Sons Meat Company and the Ribyat Brothers Furniture Company for many years.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says as Utica's economy continues to expand, it's important to preserve some of the buildings like this one that provide a link to the city's past.

The listing of the building on the state’s historic registry was approved by the New York State Historic Review Board and the State Historic Preservation Officer, and has been sent to the National Park Services for recommended listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
