Utica, NY (WIBX) - Utica City Clerk, Joan Brenon, officiated her first same-sex marriage at City Hall this morning. She says the couple asked to remain anonymous. Brenon said, "This morning we had our first same-sex marriage. It was very private, they wanted to remain anonymous. They had a few close family members and it was obviously a civil ceremony--it wasn't a religious ceremony. It just was a very quiet ceremony, they were very happy."

When asked about her personal view on the controversial marriage equality law that went into affect over the weekend, Brenon says she supports the bill and quoted the Pursuit of Happiness section of the Declaration of Independence to drive home her point. She says 9 same sex-marriage licenses have been issued in the city so far.
